Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Upward? Upward Basketball and cheerleading is a faith-based sports league provided nationally and hosted by area coaches. Upward provides kids in kindergarten through 8th grade the opportunity to play basketball in a semi-competitive environment. All skill levels are welcome. 

 

What is the time committment?  Participants will be expected to practice one night a week for an hour with their teams beginning the week of November 7th. Team will have approximately four practices before games begin. However, practices will continue throughout the season.  Beginning Saturday, December 3, each team will also play one game (approximately 1 hour) on Saturdays. Teams will play three games before Christmas break. Returning in January, teams will play five more weeks of games.

 

How are the players divided?  The players are divided into leagues by age and gender. Teams will only play teams in their age category. Boys and girls do not play against each other. Below are the current age categories:

Kindergarten and 1st grade

2nd and 3rd grade

4th and 5th grade

6th-8th grades

 

How do I register? Participants must fill out an Upward Registration Form. These forms can be optained at the Family Life Center or mailed to you upon request.

Registration Cost: $55 (scholarships available)

Optional shorts or mock turtlenecks: $12

 

All basketball players must attend one evaluation night. Times for K-5th are come and go. Cheerleaders DO NOT need to attend an evaluation.

Tuesday, October 11 (6-7:30pm)

Thursday, October 13 (6-7:30pm)

Friday, October 14 (6-7:30pm)

Monday, October 17 (6-7:30pm)

Thursday, October 20 (5:30pm-7:30pm)

 

Middle School Evaluation Scrimmages

(Grades 6-8):

Primary Scrimmage: Sunday, October 16 (2-3:30pm)

Makeup Scrimmage: Tuesday, October 18 (6-7:30pm)

 

Registration Deadline: October 21

Practices begin the week of Monday, November 7, 2011.

First Game: Saturday, December 3, 2011

Awards Celebration: Saturday, February, 4, 2012
